Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist of the Roses: Name Cheats Don't Work—Here's How to Actually Get Cards

Name-based cheat codes do not work in Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses (PS2). The game uses a fixed card database and progression system—entering specific names at the name-entry screen unlocks nothing.

How to Actually Get Cards

Legitimate Methods

  • Deck Cost farming: Win duels → earn Deck Cost (DC) → buy packs from "Card Shop" (accessible via map). Higher DC = better packs.
  • Rank up: Increase Duelist Level (win duels) → unlocks better booster packs in shop.
  • Specific opponent drops: Certain duelists drop specific cards on defeat (check FAQs for drop tables).
  • Field bonuses: Play on favorable terrain (Forest, Mountain, etc.) for ATK/DEF boosts → easier wins.
  • Leader duplication trick (post-game): After beating all leaders, you can re-duel them for their leader card (once each).

Cheat Devices (Action Replay / GameShark / CodeBreaker)

  • Codes exist for: Infinite Deck Cost, All Cards in Shop, Instant Win, Max Deck Capacity, Card Modifier (slot 1 = specific card ID).
  • Risks: Save corruption, game freeze, trophies disabled (PS2 Classics on PS3/PS4), online desync (not applicable), ban from leaderboards (defunct).
  • How to use: Disc swap trick (PS2) or OPL/ESR + .pnach file (PCSX2 emulator).

Emulator Cheats (PCSX2)

If playing on PCSX2:

  1. Enable "Cheats" in PCSX2 config.
  2. Download .pnach file for SCUS-97123 (NTSC-U) / SCES-50396 (PAL).
  3. Place in cheats folder. Enable in UI.
  4. Common codes: 203xxxxx 0000FFFF (Infinite DC), 003xxxxx 000000XX (Card modifier).

Recommendation

Play legitimately. The deck-building progression is the game. The satisfaction of earning Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon or Exodia through DC grinding is the intended experience. Cheats trivialize a 30+ hour campaign.
