Game Boy SP vs. DS Charger: Incompatible Voltage & Connector — Use Correct Model

No. Do not use a Nintendo DS/DS Lite charger on a Game Boy Advance SP. Voltage and connector differ.

Risks of Mismatch

  • DS charger on SP: 4.6V vs 5.2V — under-voltage, higher current. May charge slowly or not at all; connector physically mismatched.
  • SP charger on DS: 5.2V into 4.6V device → Overvoltage stress on PMIC/battery controller. Connector won't seat properly.

Bottom line: Connectors are physically different (keyed). Forcing damages port. Use correct charger:

  • SP: Model AGS-002 (5.2V 450mA)
  • DS/DS Lite: Model WAP-002 (4.6V 900mA)
  • DSi/3DS: Model WAP-002 (same as DS Lite) or WAP-003 (4.6V 900mA, folding prongs)

Modern USB-C PD trigger cables (5V→5.2V) + SP barrel tip work for SP on power banks.
