Mobile Nintendo DS Battery Chargers: Not Official

Nintendo never released a mobile (power bank) charger for DS/DSi/3DS. All official chargers are AC wall adapters (WAP-002 for DS/DSL, WAP-003 for DSi/3DS).

Why No Official Mobile Charger

  • Proprietary connector (not USB) on DS/DSi/3DS.
  • Li-ion charging requires precise CC/CV profile; cheap power banks risk overvoltage.
  • Nintendo sells "Charge Pack" (battery + dock) not portable USB.

Safe DIY Mobile Charging

  1. USB-C PD Power Bank + USB-C to DS/3DS Cable:
    • Cable must include boost converter (5V → 4.6V/5.2V depending on model) and correct plug.
    • Reputable: RetroSix, HandHeld Legend, 8BitMods cables.
  2. Original Charger + Portable AC Inverter: Plug wall wart into 100W car inverter / portable power station (Jackery, EcoFlow). Bulky but 100% safe.
  3. Spare Battery: Swap genuine Nintendo battery (CTR-003 for 3DS, TWL-003 for DSi, USG-003 for DS Lite). Charge spare externally with official charger.

Avoid

  • Bare wires / soldering to battery terminals.
  • Generic "multi-tip" laptop chargers (voltage mismatch).
  • Charging via PC USB (current limited to 500 mA; charges extremely slow or not at all while playing).

Best: Carry official AC adapter + compact power strip. DS family battery life (5–10 hrs) usually covers portable sessions.
