Can Nintendo 2DS Play DS and 3DS Games?

Yes. The Nintendo 2DS (and 2DS XL) plays both Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS game cartridges.

Compatibility Details

• DS Games: Full compatibility. Displayed in 2D (top screen stretched to fill).
• 3DS Games: Full compatibility. 3D effect disabled (2DS has no 3D screen). Games run identically otherwise.
• Cartridge Slot: Single slot accepts both DS and 3DS cards (3DS cards have small tab—fits fine).
• Region Locking: Still applies. 2DS plays games from its own region only.

Limitations vs. 3DS/3DS XL

• No 3D slider (obviously).
• No C-Stick / ZL/ZR buttons (use touchscreen or Circle Pad Pro—not supported on 2DS).
• Mono speaker (3DS has stereo).
• No folding hinge—fixed slate design.
• Sleep switch instead of closing lid.

2DS XL Note

New Nintendo 2DS XL (2017) adds C-Stick, ZL/ZR, better screens, folding design—same game compatibility.

All DS/3DS games work on any 2DS model. Just no 3D.
