Does the Nintendo DSi Need a Power Plug? It Uses a Dedicated AC Adapter

The DSi does not plug directly into a wall outlet. It uses a dedicated AC Adapter (Charger) that connects to a proprietary port on the console.

What You Need

  • Nintendo DSi AC Adapter (Model WAP-002): Input: AC 100–240V 50/60Hz. Output: 4.6V / 900mA. Unique connector (not USB, not barrel jack).
  • Charging Cradle (Optional, Model WAP-003): Holds DSi upright; adapter plugs into cradle.

Compatibility

  • DSi / DSi XL / 3DS / 3DS XL / 2DS / New 3DS / New 3DS XL / New 2DS XL: All share the same WAP-002 adapter.
  • Original DS / DS Lite: Use different adapter (WAP-001, 5.2V). Not interchangeable.

Lost Charger?

  • Buy official Nintendo WAP-002 ($10–15 used) or high-quality 3rd party (look for 4.6V 900mA+ spec).
  • USB-C "charging cables" for DSi do not exist (proprietary port). Power banks require the AC adapter.
