Resetting Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (DS) Save Data: Options & Risks

There is no in-game "delete save" option. FFTA (GBA, played on DS via backward compatibility) writes a single save file to the cartridge's flash memory (or DS slot-1 save area for GBA carts).

Options

1. New Game + (after credits): Retains jobs, abilities, items; restarts story. Best for replay.
2. Start new game on a different cartridge: Buy a second cart (cheap used).
3. Format the cartridge (DESTRUCTIVE):
   • Requires GBA flashcart programmer (GBxCart RW, EZ-Flash) or DS homebrew (GodMode9i on 3DS/DSi)
   • Erases everything—game + save. Not reversible.
4. DS System Settings → Data Management: Only works for DSiWare/DSi saves, not GBA cart saves.

Recommendation

Just start a New Game + or buy a $5 used cart. Formatting risks bricking the cartridge and loses the game itself.

Note: If playing the DS sequel FFTA2: Grimoire of the Rift, it uses standard DS save files deletable via System Settings → Data Management.
