Nintendo DSi Camera Games: Which Titles Use the Camera?

The Nintendo DSi introduced dual cameras, but only a handful of games integrated them meaningfully. Here are the notable titles that used the camera:

Augmented Reality (AR) Games

  • Face Training (Face Trainer): Uses the camera to track facial movements for muscle-strengthening exercises.
  • AR Games: A collection of mini-games (AR Bowling, AR Fishing, etc.) that project virtual objects onto the real-world camera feed.
  • Photo Dojo: Creates custom fighting-game backgrounds and character textures using camera photos.

Photo Import & Creativity

  • Scribblenauts: Allows importing photos from the DSi camera to create custom in-game objects.
  • Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask: Features a puzzle mode where you photograph real-world objects to compare with in-game images.
  • Nintendogs + Cats: Lets you take photos of your virtual pets.

Face Tracking & Utility

  • Brain Age (DSi versions): Some exercises use the camera to track facial expressions or head movement.

Limitations

The DSi cameras are low-resolution (0.3 megapixels / VGA) and lack autofocus. Most DSi titles do not use the camera at all. For more robust camera-based gameplay, consider Nintendo 3DS (AR Cards, Face Raiders) or Nintendo Switch (Labo, Ring Fit Adventure, Snap).
