Will There Be a New Guitar Hero Game for Nintendo DSi?

No. The Nintendo DSi was discontinued in 2011, and the Guitar Hero franchise has been dormant since Guitar Hero Live (2015). There are no plans — nor technical feasibility — for a new Guitar Hero title on the DSi.

Why It Won't Happen

  • Dead Platform: The DSi/DS line has been succeeded by the 3DS and Switch. No developer targets DSi hardware in 2024+.
  • Hardware Limits: The DSi lacks the processing power, storage, and audio fidelity for a modern rhythm game with streaming assets.
  • Peripheral Dependency: Guitar Hero requires a guitar controller. The DSi has no USB host port and only a proprietary connector (used for the Guitar Hero: On Tour grip), which is long out of production.

Existing DSi Guitar Hero Titles

  • Guitar Hero: On Tour (2008)
  • Guitar Hero: On Tour – Decades (2008)
  • Guitar Hero: On Tour – Modern Hits (2009)

These used the Guitar Grip accessory (slot-2) and the touchscreen for strumming. They are the only official entries on the platform.

Modern Alternatives

  • Clone Hero (PC): Free, community-driven, supports custom songs, works with almost any controller.
  • Guitar Hero Live / Rock Band 4: On PS4, Xbox One, Switch (RB4 only).
  • Taiko no Tatsujin / Hatsune Miku: Rhythm games on Switch with great tracklists.
