Playing Pokémon Emerald (GBA) on Nintendo DS: Options & Limits

Standard DS and DSi lack the GBA cartridge slot—they cannot play Pokémon Emerald natively.

Viable Paths

• Nintendo DS Lite: Has GBA slot; plays Emerald cartridge perfectly. Best authentic experience.
• GBA Emulator on DS (homebrew): GBARunner2 runs on flashcarts (R4, DSTWO) or CFW DSi/3DS. Compatibility ~80%; save states, speed-up, but occasional audio/graphic glitches.

Legal & Practical Notes

• Dumping your own cart via GBxCart RW → legal backup in most regions.
• Downloading ROMs you don't own = copyright infringement.
• Performance on DS hardware (67 MHz ARM9) lags behind native GBA (16 MHz ARM7 + dedicated video).

For the truest experience: original GBA/SP/Micro or DS Lite + genuine cartridge.
