The Sims 2: Bustin’ Out (PS2) – There Is No “Mechanic” Skill

If you're scouring the skill menu in The Sims 2: Bustin’ Out on PlayStation 2 looking for a "Mechanic" skill, you won't find it. The console version uses a different skill system than its PC counterpart, and the closest equivalent is the Mechanical skill.

Skills That Actually Exist

  • Mechanical – Governs repair speed for toilets, showers, appliances, and other broken objects.
  • Cleaning – Affects how quickly and thoroughly your Sim cleans.
  • Cooking, Logic, Body, Charisma, Creativity – Round out the core skill set.

Fastest Ways to Level Mechanical

  • Buy cheap, breakable objects (a basic toilet, shower, or fridge), let them break, and repair them repeatedly.
  • Read the Mechanical skill book – purchase it from a bookcase and have your Sim study.
  • Chase "Handy" chance cards in the Slacker or Criminal career tracks; they can grant a free skill point.

No "Mechanic 5" or Career Track

Skills in Bustin’ Out max out at level 10, not 5. There is no dedicated "Mechanic" career branch. The Slacker career does feature a "Mechanic" chance card, but it's entirely random. If you want to fix things fast, pour points into Mechanical—it's the only skill that matters for repairs.
