Nintendo DSi & DS Download Play: What You Need to Know

The Nintendo DSi does not support DS Download Play.

Details

• DS Download Play was exclusive to the original Nintendo DS and DS Lite.
• It allowed multiplayer from a single cartridge (host shares demo data).
• The DSi removed this feature entirely; it cannot host or join Download Play sessions.

What the DSi Has Instead

• DSiWare downloadable games and apps.
• Standard local wireless multiplayer (each player needs their own cartridge).
• Internet play via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (discontinued 2014).

For Download Play, use an original DS or DS Lite.
