Mii StreetPass on 3DS: Service Ended (2023)

StreetPass cannot be started or used. Nintendo permanently shut down StreetPass relay servers in March 2023 (along with SpotPass). The feature is non-functional on all 3DS systems.

What Still Works Locally

• Direct StreetPass (Local): Two 3DS systems in sleep mode, within ~100 ft, can still exchange data if both have StreetPass enabled in System Settings → Data Management → StreetPass. No internet required.
• Game-specific StreetPass: Mario Kart 7, Animal Crossing: NL, Fire Emblem Awakening, Bravely Default, Pokémon XY/ORAS/SM/USUM — local tags still exchange.

What's Dead

• Nintendo Zone / Relay stations (McDonald's, Best Buy, Home Depot, etc.) – no longer relay tags.
• Mii Plaza updates (new puzzles, hats, Birthdays).
• SpotPass (auto-download via Wi-Fi).

Homebrew Alternative (Custom Firmware)

• StreetPass Relay (homebrew): StreetPass Relay 3DS or Nintendo Zone Spoofer on CFW (Luma3DS + Boot9strap) can simulate a relay point using a Raspberry Pi / PC / second 3DS. Requires technical setup.
• Citra (PC/Android emulator): Netplay + StreetPass emulation for some games.

For 99% of users: StreetPass is over. Enjoy the tags you already collected.
