Minecraft Multiplayer on Xbox: Complete Setup Guide for Bedrock Edition (Realms, Servers, Splitscreen)

Minecraft on Xbox (Bedrock Edition) requires Xbox Live Gold / Game Pass Core for online multiplayer. Local splitscreen does not.

Prerequisites

• Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One (Bedrock Edition)
• Active Xbox Game Pass Core (or legacy Gold) subscription for online play
• Microsoft account with privacy settings allowing multiplayer
• Stable internet (5+ Mbps up/down recommended)

Method 1: Invite Friends to Your World (Easiest)

1. Create or load a world → Enable Multiplayer Game & Visible to LAN Players (for local) or Microsoft Account Friends (online).
2. Open Guide (Xbox button) → Parties & Chat → Start Party → Invite friends.
3. Friends join via Party → "Join Game" or from Friends list → "Join."

Method 2: Minecraft Realms (Persistent Server)

• Subscribe in-game: Settings → Realms → Subscribe ($7.99/mo for 2 players, $15.99/mo for 10).
• Invite friends via Realms menu (they don't need Realms sub, just Game Pass Core).
• World stays online 24/7; owner manages backups/members.

Method 3: Join External Servers

1. Main Menu → Play → Servers tab.
2. Browse featured servers (Mineplex, Hive, Cubecraft, etc.) or Add Server (IP:port).
3. Join—no invite needed; public servers.

Method 4: Local Splitscreen (No Subscription Needed)

• Sign in 2nd+ controller with another profile (or guest).
• Press "Start" on 2nd controller in-game → joins splitscreen.
