Action Replay for Game Boy: Where to Buy (Nowhere New) & Better Alternatives

You cannot buy a new Action Replay for Game Boy, Game Boy Color, or Game Boy Advance in stores. Production ended over 15 years ago.

Where to Find Used (Collector Market Only)

  • eBay: Search "Action Replay Game Boy," "Action Replay GBA," or "GameShark Game Boy." Prices range $40–$150+ depending on model (GB/GBC/GBA/SP/DS), condition, and whether box/manual are included. Verify seller photos for cartridge slot damage.
  • Retro game stores (local/online): DKOldies, Lukie Games, JJGames, local shops. Often tested with warranty, but at a premium.
  • Mercari / Facebook Marketplace / r/GameSale: Hit or miss.
  • Conventions / flea markets: Rare finds.

Modern Alternatives (Better, Cheaper, Legal)

MethodDevicePros
Flashcart + Cheat Database EZ-Flash Omega / Jr (GBA), EverDrive GB (GB/GBC), EZ-Flash Junior (GB/GBC) Real hardware. Load ROMs + .cht cheat files (GBAtemp databases). Save states, RTC. Best authentic experience.
Emulator + Cheats PC: mGBA, VBA-M, RetroArch. Mobile: My Boy! (GBA), John GBAC (GBC), Pizza Boy (GBA) Free. Built-in cheat search, save states, fast-forward, shaders. Most practical.
Analogue Pocket FPGA Handheld Plays GB/GBC/GBA carts and cores via SD. No native cheat engine yet (community cores may add).

Warning

Original Action Replay / GameShark hardware is unreliable (dead batteries, corroded contacts, fragile plastic). Flashcarts and emulators are superior in every way for cheat functionality.
