Trading Fish in Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii) – Workarounds

Direct player-to-player trading is impossible in Animal Crossing: City Folk (Wii). The game lacks a trade window or mail attachment system for items between players.

Workarounds to Transfer Fish

  1. Drop & Pick Up (Local/Online): Visit a friend's town via Nintendo WFC (now requires Wiimmfi private servers). Drop the fish on the ground; they pick it up. Risk: Visitors can steal other items.
  2. Sell at Re-Tail / Nook's: You sell the fish; your friend buys it from the shop's flea market slot (if available) or you give them the Bells to buy their own.
  3. Gift to Villagers: Give fish to a villager; they *might* display it or gift it to another visitor later—unreliable.

Better Trading in Later Entries

  • New Leaf (3DS): Added "Drop Item" + "Best Friend" mail attachments.
  • New Horizons (Switch): Full inventory trading, mail gifts, and cataloging.

If you're on original Wii hardware without Wiimmfi, you cannot interact with other players at all since Nintendo WFC shut down in 2014.
