Mario Kart 7 Online Multiplayer (2024 Status): Permanently Unavailable

Online multiplayer for Mario Kart 7 is permanently unavailable. Nintendo shut down the 3DS/Wii U online services (including Mario Kart 7) in May 2023.

What Still Works

• Local wireless: Up to 8 players via Download Play (one cartridge) or Local Play (each has a copy).
• Single-player: Grand Prix, Time Trials, Balloon Battle, Coin Runners.
• StreetPass/SpotPass: Ghost data exchange still functions if both systems have StreetPass enabled and pass each other physically.

Alternatives for Online Kart Racing

• Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch): Full online support, 48 tracks, 2-player local + online.
• Mario Kart Tour (mobile): Free-to-play with online multiplayer.

If you're on 3DS, local wireless is your only multiplayer option now.
