Renting Games on GameFly? Service Shut Down—Modern Alternatives

GameFly ceased operations in 2019. Physical disc rental by mail is effectively dead.

Current Game Access Models

• Xbox Game Pass (Console/PC/Ultimate): $10-17/mo for 300+ rotating library, day-one first-party, EA Play included.
• PlayStation Plus (Extra/Premium): $15-18/mo for 400+ PS4/PS5/Classics catalog, cloud streaming (Premium).
• Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack: $50/yr for NES/SNES/N64/GB/GBA/Genesis libraries + DLCs.
• Cloud Streaming: GeForce Now (bring-your-own-library), Amazon Luna (channel subs), Xbox Cloud Gaming (with Game Pass Ultimate).
• Digital Store Sales: Steam, Epic, GOG, PSN, Xbox, eShop—frequent 50-90% off.

Physical Rental Leftovers

• Local indie game stores (rare).
• Redbox kiosks (mostly movies, few Switch/PS5 games in test markets).
• GameStop PowerUp Rewards Pro: occasional "rent-to-own" promos.
