You cannot download games directly from the internet (websites, browsers, file links) to an iPhone 4. Apple's iOS enforces a strict walled garden model.
Why Direct Downloads Are Blocked
- App Store Exclusivity: The only official way to install apps (including games) on a non-jailbroken iPhone is the App Store app.
- Code Signing: Every app must be signed by Apple (Developer ID + Provisioning Profile). Safari/downloads cannot provide this signature.
- Security Model: Prevents malware, spyware, pirated apps, and unstable code from running. Sandboxing isolates apps.
- No Sideloading (Officially): Unlike Android (APK install), iOS has no "Install unknown apps" setting for users. (Enterprise/Ad-Hoc distribution exists for corps, not consumers).
How to Get Games on iPhone 4 (iOS 7.1.2 Max)
- Open App Store app on the iPhone 4.
- Search or browse categories.
- Tap Get (Free) or Price (Paid).
- Authenticate with Apple ID password / Touch ID (if 4s/5+) — iPhone 4 uses password only.
- Download/Install progresses on home screen.
Legacy / Older Games
- Purchased Tab: In App Store → Profile → Purchased → "Not on This iPhone". Shows all games ever bought on that Apple ID. Download compatible ones (many old 32-bit games will not run on iOS 7, but some updated ones will).
- iTunes on PC (Legacy): Old iTunes (12.6.5 or earlier) had App Store. You could download `.ipa` files to PC library, then sync to iPhone 4 via USB. Removed in iTunes 12.7+ (2017). Not possible on modern macOS/Windows iTunes.
Jailbreaking (Not Recommended)
Jailbreaking (e.g., checkra1n for iPhone 4 — permanent bootrom exploit) allows installing `.ipa` / `.deb` files via Cydia/Sileo/Zebra, AppSync, IPABox. Risks: Instability, security holes, no Apple support, banking apps break, iCloud issues. iPhone 4 is stuck on iOS 7.1.2 anyway—most modern apps require iOS 12+.
Verdict: Use the on-device App Store. The iPhone 4 is a museum piece; enjoy the games that still download (e.g., Angry Birds Classic, Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride, Temple Run — if they haven't been updated to 64-bit only).
