Can You Play Forged Maps Online in Halo 3?

Not in official Matchmaking. Halo 3's matchmaking (Social / Ranked) only uses Bungie-authored maps (on-disc + Map Pack DLCs: Heroic, Legendary, Mythic).

Why?

• Forged maps are user-generated content (UGC) stored in the map variant file, not a standalone .map file.
• Matchmaking requires all players to have the exact same map hash on disc/DLC. UGC can't be distributed via the matchmaking hopper.
• Bungie curated "Community Maps" (e.g., Assembly, Heretic, Citadel remakes) were occasionally added to Double EXP Weekend playlists, but these were hand-picked, tested, and pushed as official playlist updates — not dynamic UGC.

How to Play Your Forged Maps Online

1. Custom Games (System Link / Xbox Live Party):
   • Host a Custom Game lobby.
   • Invite friends (must be on Friends List / Recent Players).
   • Select your Map Variant (saved in File Share).
   • Everyone downloads the variant from host automatically.
2. File Share Distribution: Upload your map/film/screenshots to File Share (Start → File Share). Friends can download from your profile in-game or via Bungie.net (legacy) / Halo Waypoint.
3. PC (MCC / Project Cartographer / ElDewrito):
   • Halo 3 (MCC): Forge maps work in Custom Games browser. Cross-play Xbox/PC.
   • Project Cartographer (Halo 3 PC Mod): Dedicated servers, server browser, full Forge support, anti-cheat.
   • ElDewrito (Halo Online / Eldorado): Community client, massive mod support, custom maps browser.

Warning

Using modified .map files / memory mods / trainers on Xbox 360 (JTAG/RGH) or MCC (anti-cheat bypass) will get you banned. Stick to legitimate Forge variants + Custom Games.
