Ripping Games to PS3: Not Directly Possible—Legal Alternatives

You cannot "rip" game discs directly to PS3 internal storage. The PS3 lacks native disc-to-HDD copying for PS3 games (unlike PS4/PS5).

Why Not?

Encryption: PS3 discs use proprietary encryption (per-disc keys) — cannot be read by standard PC drives.
No System Feature: XMB has no "Install Disc" for PS3 games (only for PS1/PS2 Classics, minis, PSP).
Legal/DRM: Sony prevents disc cloning to combat piracy.

Risks of CFW/HEN

PSN ban (console + account) if detected online.
Brick risk during install (low on HEN, higher on CFW flash).

Recommendation: Keep discs, buy digital if available, or use PS Plus Premium streaming. CFW only for preservation/owned-library convenience on compatible hardware.
