Can You Use an Old Agetec Controller on PS3?

No direct connection. Agetec controllers (PS1/PS2 era) use proprietary wired protocols incompatible with PS3's USB/Bluetooth HID stack.

Why It Fails

  • PS3 only recognizes: DualShock 3, Sixaxis, PS3-licensed fight sticks/racing wheels, standard USB HID keyboards/mice.
  • Agetec pads lack the USB descriptor/handshake PS3 expects.

Unreliable Workarounds

  • PS2 → USB Adapters (e.g., Mayflash, Super Joy Box): Some work for generic PS2 pads, but Agetec's non-standard encoding often fails. Input lag, dropped buttons, no Home button.
  • Brook Universal Fighting Board (UFB) / Retro Board: Professional PCB replacement. Requires soldering/modding the Agetec shell. Expensive ($60+), enthusiast-only.
  • Cronus Zen / Titan Two: Adapter dongles that translate legacy controllers. Adds latency; tournament-banned often.

Best Solution

Buy a DualShock 3 (used $15–$25) or 8BitDo Retro Receiver + Bluetooth pad ($20+$40). Native, wireless, reliable, Home button works.

Using unofficial adapters risks input issues, firmware bricks, and no vendor support.
