Can You Watch Movies on PS3 Without Blu-ray Discs? Yes — Here's How

No, a movie does not have to be on a Blu-ray disc to be watched on a PS3. Here are the alternative methods:

• Streaming Services: Apps for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more allow direct streaming to your console.
• Downloaded Movies: Purchase or rent films online and download them to the PS3's hard drive.
• PlayStation Store: Offers a selection of movies for purchase or rental, downloadable directly.
• Media Server: Stream movies from a computer to your PS3 using media server software.

While Blu-ray playback is a PS3 feature, it's far from the only way to enjoy movies on the console.
