The PS3 supports the following video outputs (varies slightly by model):
| Output | Max Resolution | Audio | Cable Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| HDMI | 1080p / 1080i / 720p / 480p | Up to 7.1 LPCM / Bitstream | HDMI 1.3+ |
| Component (YPbPr) | 1080i / 720p / 480p | Analog Stereo (RCA) or Optical | PS3 Component AV Cable |
| S‑Video | 480i | Analog Stereo (RCA) | PS3 S‑Video Cable (rare) |
| Composite (AV) | 480i | Analog Stereo (RCA) | PS3 AV Cable (included) |
| SCART (RGB) (EU/JP) | 576i / 480p (RGB) | Analog Stereo | PS3 SCART Cable |
Not Supported: VGA (no native output; requires active HDMI→VGA converter with EDID spoofing), DVI (HDMI→DVI passive works for video only, no audio/HDCP).
Best Practice: Use HDMI for digital video + audio in one cable. For capture cards / CRT setups, Component (YPbPr) is the highest quality analog option.
