Only on specific models. PS2 backward compatibility varies by PS3 hardware revision:
| PS3 Model | PS2 Support | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Launch "Fat" (CECHA/B/C/E, 20/60/80GB) | Full hardware (Emotion Engine + GS chip) | Best compatibility (~98%) |
| Later "Fat" (CECHG/H/K, 40/80GB) | Partial software (GS chip only, EE emulated) | ~70% compatibility; some bugs |
| All "Slim" & "Super Slim" | None | No PS2 hardware or software emulation |
Model number on the back (CECH-xxxx). If it starts with CECHA, B, C, or E → full BC. CECHG/H/K → partial. CECH-2xxx/3xxx/4xxx → none.
There is no "PS2 to PS3 adapter." That is a myth. Non-BC models cannot play PS2 discs—period.
Verify your model before buying PS2 discs for PS3.
