Can I Sign Into a Different PSN Account on My PS3?

The PlayStation 3 integrates very well with the PlayStation Network, giving you access to video game multiplayer and many media options available in the PlayStation Store. In order to use any PSN features, you first need an account for the network. Although you're limited to a single account per PS3 user, you can sign into different accounts on your PS3 with different user profiles.
  1. PSN Account Information

    • A PlayStation Network account gives you access to the PlayStation Store, where you can check out media downloads, like movie rentals and game trailers. Also, when you're signed into the network, you can use online multiplayer in video games for free. While you could use a PS3 console without an account, you can't use online multiplayer or access the PlayStation Store. You can create your first account in one of your PS3 user profiles by going to the "PlayStation Network" section of the XMB menu, where you can select "Sign Up for PlayStation Network." You'll need to provide your date of birth, a password and your physical address to create the account.

    User PSN Accounts

    • After you've signed into a PlayStation account in a PS3 user profile, you cannot change the account for that user; as long as that profile is on your PS3, the account will always be associated with it. You can change your email address for the account through the "PlayStation Network" portion of the XMB menu under "Account Information," then "Sign-In ID (E-mail Address)." Your account user name will remain the same, even if you change your email address for the account.

    Using Another Account

    • If you want to create another PSN account or log in using a different existing account, you need to create a new user profile on your PS3. To do this, navigate to the "Users" section of the XMB menu on the far left; then select "Create New User." After you enter a name for the user and create the profile, you can navigate to the right in the XMB menu to the "PlayStation Network" section and select "Sign Up for PlayStation Network." Here you can choose to create a new account or sign in using an existing account.

    Removing an Account

    • If you want to entirely switch to a new account, you can remove your old account from your PS3 by deleting the user profile associated with it. Unfortunately, Sony does not allow users to delete accounts entirely; the account will always be on Sony's servers. To remove an account from your PS3, go to the "Users" section of the XMB menu and highlight the user profile with the account. Only highlight the account; don't actually select it with the X button. Then press the green triangle button and select "Delete" to remove the profile from your console. If you want to go further to make the account unusable on any PS3, you can contact SCEA Consumer Services at 877-971-7669 and request that they ban or suspend the account.
