Firmware: 9.00 or lower = exploitable (homebrew premium +$50–$100). 11.00+ = standard.
Included: HDMI, power cord, DS4 (genuine vs. third-party).

Local retro store / GameStop (refurb): 30–90 day warranty, test in person.
eBay (Top Rated Seller, 30-day return): Filter "Refurbished" or "Used - Very Good."
Mercari / FB Marketplace: Meet at police safe zone, test on their TV.
Amazon Renewed: 90-day guarantee, but often overpriced.

Before Buying

Test: Boot to dashboard, eject/insert disc, connect controller, check Wi-Fi, run a game 10 min.
Check Settings → System → Console Information for firmware, MAC, storage free.
Verify no account lock (Settings → Account Management → Activate as Primary → should say "Deactivate").

Recommendation: PS4 Slim 1TB ($160–$190 used) = sweet spot. PS4 Pro only if you have a 4K HDR TV and want Boost Mode.
