Why Kutaragi Gets Credit

  • Leadership: Shielded team from Sony bureaucracy; secured 3rd-party deals (Namco, Konami, Square).
  • Persistence: Overcame internal skepticism ("toy division").

Team effort, but Kutaragi was the architect and champion. Later led PS2, PS3, PSP development; retired 2007.
