Water damage is usually fatal to a PlayStation. Liquid causes immediate short circuits and long-term corrosion. Success depends on volume, liquid type, power state, and speed of response.
| Scenario | Survival Chance |
|---|---|
| Few drops on case, powered off, dried 72h | 90%+ |
| Spill into vents, powered off, cleaned with IPA | 60–75% |
| Spill while ON, immediate shutdown, cleaned | 30–50% |
| Soda/juice/saltwater, any power state | <10% (conductive + corrosive) |
| Turned on after spill to "check" | Near 0% |
If console dies: Remove HDD/SSD. PS4/PS5 drives are encrypted to that specific console. You need the original motherboard (or paired NOR/NAND) to decrypt. Board repair is the only way to save saves/screenshots.
Act fast. Alcohol. Patience. No power until bone dry.
