What Is the Shortest Video Game?

"Shortest" depends on definition. Notable contenders:

  • The Stanley Parable (Ending 1): ~4 minutes to the "true" ending (obey narrator). But 18+ endings make it hours.
  • One Button Challenge (The Noun Project): One screen, one button. Press → Game over. ~1 second.
  • AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome: Some levels last 3–5 seconds (base jump → splat).
  • Passage (Jason Rohrer): 5 minutes fixed—life metaphor.
  • WarioWare Microgames: Each 4–8 seconds. Full game = hours.

What Counts?

  • Time to Credits: One Button Challenge wins.
  • Time to "Complete" (All Content): Different metric.
  • Artistic Intent: Passage, The Stanley Parable use brevity deliberately.
