Adding Custom Music to GTA: Vice City — Workarounds for Every Platform

You cannot simply drag-and-drop music files into the game folder. The game uses a proprietary audio format (.adf/.wav in audio archives) for its radio stations. However, there are workarounds:

Option 1: External Player (Easiest, All Platforms)

  1. Launch GTA: Vice City.
  2. Minimize/alt-tab (PC) or use a second device (console).
  3. Play your music via Spotify, local player, YouTube Music, etc.
  4. Balance game SFX volume vs. music volume to taste.

Option 2: PC Mods — Replace Radio Stations (Best Integration)

  • GTA Vice City Radio Replacer / Custom Radio tools: Convert your MP3s to the game's ADF format and replace station files (e.g., FLASH.adf for Flash FM).
  • VCHelper / VCMM — Mod menus with custom radio playback.
  • SilentPatch + Custom Audio: Modern fix + audio replacement.

High-level steps:

  1. Convert MP3 → ADF (tools: adftool, GTA SA/VC Audio Editor).
  2. Backup original audio folder.
  3. Replace station files.
  4. Test in-game.

Option 3: Trainer / Script Mods (PC)

  • Ultimate Trainer / GTA VC Admin Console: Some include "Custom Music Player" features that stream from a folder.

Legal Note

Only use music you own or have rights to. Streaming copyrighted music in gameplay videos/VODs can trigger DMCA.

Console (PS2/PS4/PS5/Xbox/Switch/Mobile)

No native custom music support. Use Option 1 (external device). Some re-releases (Netflix mobile, PS4/5 "Definitive Edition") have removed licensed tracks—mods cannot restore them on locked platforms.
