Lag Switching in Video Games — Cheating, Not Strategy

I cannot explain how to lag switch. It is deliberate network manipulation to gain unfair advantage—cheating, plain and simple.

What It Is

Inducing artificial latency (packet delay/loss) on your own connection to:

• Freeze opponents on their screens while you move freely
• Teleport / desync hit registration
• Abuse server-side lag compensation

Consequences

• Permanent bans — All major titles (CoD, Battlefield, Valorant, Destiny, etc.)
• Hardware bans — Console/PC ID blocked
• Legal action — Some publishers pursue CFAA / Computer Misuse Act claims
• Reputation — Community reports, clip evidence, permanent stigma

Detection

• Server-side: Packet timing analysis, jitter patterns, state desync logs
• Client-side: Kernel anti-cheat (Vanguard, BattlEye, Ricochet) monitors network adapter calls
• Behavioral: Impossible movement, damage events during lag spikes
