Do You Need to Play Just Cause 1 to Understand Just Cause 2?

No, Just Cause 2 is a standalone story. You do not need to play the first game.

Why It's Standalone

• New Plot: Set in fictional Panau with new characters.
• Rico's Backstory: Referenced but not required for understanding his motivations.
• Gameplay Independence: Mechanics are largely unrelated to JC1.

You can play JC2 first and enjoy it fully. Play JC1 later if you want the full series lore.
