Fallout 3 Cheats Not Working on Windows Vista: Fixes

Fallout 3's console commands (tilde ~ key) should work on Vista, but UAC, DEP, and GFWL often interfere.

Fixes (In Order)

1. Run as Administrator: Right-click Fallout3.exe → Properties → Compatibility → "Run this program as administrator".
2. Disable GFWL: Install Games for Windows Live Disabler (xliveless) — GFWL service dead since 2014; causes input/overlay blocks.
3. Vista Compatibility Mode: Same tab → "Run in compatibility mode for: Windows XP SP3".
4. Data Execution Prevention (DEP): Control Panel → System → Advanced → DEP → Add Fallout3.exe to exclusion list.
5. Install F3SE / FOSE: Script extenders fix engine bugs; enable more console commands.
6. Verify Steam Files: If Steam version — Library → Properties → Local Files → Verify.
7. INI Tweaks: Documents\My Games\Fallout3\Fallout.ini → bAllowConsole=1 (under [General]).

Command Syntax

• player.additem 0000000f 1000 — 1000 caps
• tgm — Toggle God Mode
• tcl — Toggle Collision (fly/noclip)
• player.setav health 1000 — Set health

Vista is EOL (2017). Upgrade to Win 10/11 for security and compatibility.
