Where to Buy Nintendo DS Games in 2024: Complete Guide

The Nintendo DS/3DS eShop closed March 2023. Physical cartridges are now the only legitimate way to acquire most games. Here's where to find them.

Online Marketplaces (Widest Selection)

• eBay: Largest inventory. Filter by "Complete in Box" (CIB), "Cartridge Only," region. Check seller feedback (98%+).
• Amazon (Third-Party Sellers): Convenient but prices often inflated. Verify "Sold by" ratings.
• PriceCharting.com: Not a store—tracks real-time prices across eBay, Amazon, etc. Use to avoid overpaying.
• DKOldies / Lukie Games / JJGames: Specialized retro retailers. Tested, cleaned, warranty (30–90 days). Higher prices but peace of mind.

In-Person Hunting (Best Deals)

• Local Game Stores: Call ahead. Many have DS sections. Negotiate bundles.
• GameStop: Still carries used DS/3DS games in select stores. Check website for stock.
• Thrift Stores (Goodwill, Savers, local): Hit or miss, but $2–$5 finds happen. Inspect pins for corrosion.
• Flea Markets / Garage Sales / Swap Meets: Best for bulk lots. Bring a DS Lite to test.
• Retro Gaming Conventions / Expos: Vendors, trading, community.

Digital (Limited)

• Nintendo eShop (3DS/Wii U): CLOSED. No new purchases. Previously bought games can still be redownloaded (for now).

Critical Buying Tips

• Region Lock: DS games are region-free. 3DS games are region-locked. Match your console's region (USA, EUR, JPN).
• Counterfeits: Common for Pokémon, Mario, Zelda. Signs: wrong label font, glossy label, missing Nintendo logo on PCB, save errors. Compare to verified photos on r/gameverifying.
• Battery Saves: DS carts use flash memory (no battery). GBA carts in slot-2 use CR1616/CR2025—test saves.
• Clean Contacts: Use 99% isopropyl alcohol + cotton swab on gold pins before first use.
