Where to Buy Nintendo DS Memory Cards (And Modern Alternatives)

Nintendo DS (original/Phat) and DS Lite use a proprietary **Game Card** slot—no standard memory card. The **DSi** and **DSi XL** added an **SD card slot** (SDHC up to 32 GB).

If You Mean "Save Data Backup" for DS/DS Lite

  • Action Replay DS / DSi + Save Manager homebrew (requires flashcart).
  • Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (defunct) previously allowed some save uploads.
  • No official standalone "memory card" exists for original DS/Lite.

For DSi / DSi XL / 3DS Family

  • Standard **SD / SDHC cards** (SanDisk, Samsung, Kingston) work perfectly.
  • Buy anywhere: Amazon, Best Buy, Micro Center—$5–$15 for 16–32 GB.
  • Format to FAT32 (32 KB clusters) in the console's System Settings.

Flashcarts (Play ROMs / Homebrew on DS/DS Lite/DSi/3DS)

  • R4i Gold 3DS Plus (ntrboot compatible) – ~$20.
  • Ace3DS X – budget option.
  • Supercard DSTWO (discontinued, has onboard CPU for GBA/SNES emulation).

Use only for legally owned backups/homebrew.

Bottom line: Original DS/Lite don't take memory cards. DSi/3DS use standard SD. Flashcarts are the only way to expand storage on old models.
