Mario Kart DS Demo: No Longer Obtainable (2005 Limited Release)

You cannot get the Mario Kart DS demo anymore. It was a limited 2005 promotional release.

Original Distribution Channels (All Defunct)

• GameStop / EB Games / GameCrazy Demo Kiosks: In-store Nintendo DS download stations (DS Download Play).
• Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection: Brief download via "Nintendo Channel" / "DS Download Station" (2005–2006).
• Magazine Cover Discs: Nintendo Power, Game Informer, Official Nintendo Magazine — DS demo carts/discs.
• Events: E3, PAX, Nintendo World Store, mall tours.

Why It's Gone

• Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection shut down (May 2014).
• Demo kiosks removed / repurposed.
• No digital storefront for DS demos (unlike 3DS/Wii U/Switch eShop).

How to Play Mario Kart DS Today

1. Buy Used Cartridge: $15–30 (eBay, Mercari, local shop). Works on DS, DS Lite, DSi, 3DS, 2DS.
2. Flashcart (R4i Gold 3DS + TwilightMenu++): Load ROM legally dumped from your cart.
3. Emulation: melonDS (PC/Android), DeSmuME (PC), Drastic (Android) — upscale, widescreen hack, save states.
4. Wii U Virtual Console (Delisted): Was $6.99 on Wii U eShop (closed 2023). Redownload if previously purchased.

Demo Content Note

The demo only had Figure-8 Circuit (single track) + Time Trial + 2 karts. Full game: 32 tracks, 12 chars, 8 karts, missions, VS, Battle, Wi-Fi. Demo is <1% of content.

Just buy the cart — it's one of the best DS games ever made.
