Nintendo DSi PIN: What It Is & How to Recover a Forgotten Code

There is no universal PIN. Each DSi owner sets a unique 4‑digit PIN during initial setup (Parental Controls).

If You Forgot Your PIN

1. Try Common Codes: 0000, 1234, 1111, birth year, last 4 digits of phone number.
2. “I Forgot” Prompt: On the PIN screen, tap “I Forgot” → answer the secret question set during setup.
3. Master Key (Legacy): Nintendo Support used to generate a master key from the inquiry number shown on the “I Forgot” screen. Service discontinued for DSi/3DS as of 2023.
4. Factory Reset (Last Resort):
   • Power off.
   • Hold Power + Volume Up + Select (or Power + L + R + Up on DSi XL).
   • Select Format System Memory → ALL DATA LOST (games, saves, photos, DSiWare).

Prevention

Write the PIN in a safe place. Use a password manager. If buying used, ensure the seller removes the PIN or provides it.
