DS Games on GBA: Impossible—Hardware & Format Incompatibility

You cannot play Nintendo DS games on a Game Boy Advance.

Fundamental Barriers

• Cartridge Size/Shape: DS cards are larger, different pinout, won't fit GBA slot.
• Architecture Gap: DS has dual ARM CPUs (ARM9 + ARM7), 4 MB RAM, 2D/3D GPU, wireless—GBA has single ARM7, 256 KB RAM, no 3D hardware.
• OS Difference: DS runs a firmware/OS layer; GBA boots directly to cartridge code.

What Works

• GBA Games on DS/DS Lite: Backward compatible via Slot-2.
• DS Games on 3DS/2DS: Full backward compatibility.
• DS Emulation on PC/Phone: melonDS, DeSmuME, DraStic.
