Transferring Pokémon from LeafGreen (GBA) to Nintendo DS

Direct transfer is impossible. GBA cartridges (LeafGreen) and DS cartridges use incompatible hardware/protocols. No official link cable or software exists.

Legitimate Migration Path (Gen 3 → Gen 4 → Gen 5 → Modern)

1. GBA → DS (Gen 4): Insert LeafGreen into GBA slot of original DS / DS Lite. Start Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, or SoulSilver. Use "Migrate from LeafGreen" on main menu (once per 24h, 6 Pokémon, no held items). Requires National Dex in Gen 4 game.
2. DS (Gen 4/5) → 3DS (Gen 6+): Use Poké Transporter (3DS eShop, requires Pokémon Bank subscription – service ended March 2023, now free but 3DS eShop closed). Transfer from Gen 5 (Black/White/B2/W2) → Bank → Pokémon Home (Switch/Mobile).
3. Home → Modern: Move to Sword/Shield, Scarlet/Violet, Legends: Arceus, BDSP (if in regional dex).

Current Reality (2024)

• 3DS eShop closed → Cannot download Poké Transporter/Bank new.
• If you already have Bank/Transporter installed on a 3DS, it still works → Home.
• No new way to get Gen 3/4/5 mons into Home without existing 3DS setup.
• Alternative: Trade locally to a friend with the 3DS chain setup.

Emulation / Save Editing (Not Official)

Tools like PKHeX can extract .pk3 files from a LeafGreen save (via emulator/flashcart) and inject into modern saves. Requires CFW/PC. Not "legit" for online play.

Best advice: Find a friend with a DS Lite + Gen 4/5 cart + 3DS + Bank already installed. Or replay the experience in a modern game.
