Playing US DSi XL Games on a UK Console? Region-Locked—Workarounds Exist

No. Nintendo DSi/DSi XL/3DS are region-locked for DSi-enhanced and DSi-exclusive software (DSiWare, DSi-only cartridges).

Details

• Original DS games (DS cartridges): Region-free on DS/DS Lite. Region-locked on DSi/3DS (they check region).
• DSi-enhanced carts (black cart, TWL): Region-locked on all DSi/3DS.
• DSiWare: Tied to the Shop region; cannot cross regions.

Workarounds (Technical, At Your Own Risk)

• Custom Firmware (HiyaCFW / TWiLight Menu++): On DSi/3DS, allows launching out-of-region carts and DSiWare. Requires modding.
• Flashcarts (R4i, Ace3DS): Load ROMs from SD. Piracy risk; illegal in many jurisdictions.

Best legal option: Buy games from your console's region (UK/PAL).
