How to Change Your Nintendo Account ID

You cannot change your Nintendo Account ID (the unique @username). It is permanent upon creation.

What You *Can* Change

SettingChangeable?How

If You *Must* Have a Different @username

  1. Create a **new Nintendo Account** with desired @username.
  2. Consequences: **Lose everything tied to old account:** Digital game licenses, save data (cloud), Gold Points, Friend List, Mii, Play Activity, Parental Controls, Nintendo Switch Online membership (individual).
  3. Data Transfer? **No tool exists** to merge/transfer licenses/saves between accounts.
  4. Family Group: New account can join Family Group for NSO Family Plan sharing.

NNID (Nintendo Network ID) — Legacy (Wii U / 3DS)

  • Separate from Nintendo Account (though linkable).
  • **Cannot change NNID.** Same restrictions.
  • If you unlink NNID from Nintendo Account, you lose access to Wii U/3DS eShop purchases on that NNID.

Recommendation: Change **Nickname** and **Email** instead. Only create new account if absolutely necessary (e.g., compromised, region lock emergency).
