What Is Nintendo's Latest Handheld Console?

Nintendo's latest dedicated handheld console is the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) (released October 2021).

However, the **Nintendo Switch family** is unique — it's a **hybrid**:

• Nintendo Switch (Original, 2017): 6.2" LCD, detachable Joy-Cons, dockable to TV.
• Nintendo Switch Lite (2019): **Handheld-only** (no dock, fixed controls, 5.5" LCD, smaller, lighter, $199). **Pure handheld.**
• Nintendo Switch OLED Model (2021): 7" OLED screen, 64 GB storage, wired LAN dock, improved kickstand, better speakers. **Hybrid (handheld + docked).**

Key Distinction

• If you want **handheld-only** → **Switch Lite** ($199) is the latest *dedicated* handheld form factor.
• If you want **handheld + TV** → **Switch OLED** ($349) is the latest *premium* hybrid.
• **No "DS" or "3DS" successor exists.** The 3DS family (2011–2020) is discontinued. Switch replaced both Wii U and 3DS lines.

Rumors (Unconfirmed)

Industry reports (2024) suggest a **"Switch 2" / Next-Gen Hybrid** targeting 2025 launch (Nvidia T239 chip, DLSS, 1080p/120Hz handheld, 4K/60Hz docked). **Nothing announced by Nintendo.**
