Connecting Nintendo DSi to Computer: USB Cable Needed?
You cannot directly connect a DSi to a computer via USB for data transfer like a smartphone.
Why Direct USB Doesn't Work
No Native USB Support:
DSi uses a proprietary connector for charging and the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector.
Limited Functionality:
The Wi-Fi USB Connector only enables internet access and system updates—
no file transfers
(music, photos, videos).
How to Transfer Data
SD Card (Primary Method):
DSi saves games, photos, etc., to SD card. Remove card, insert into computer's SD reader.
DSiWare via Wi-Fi USB Connector:
Some DSiWare downloads go to internal memory and can be transferred to PC via the connector.
Key Notes
SD card is the most versatile transfer method.
Wi-Fi USB Connector does
not
support general file transfer.
Eject SD cards properly to avoid data loss.
