Nintendo DS Lite USB Cable: Data Transfer & Charging Reality

The DS Lite uses a proprietary connector—not standard USB. You cannot plug a USB cable directly into the console.

Official Cable (NTR-010 / WAP-002)

  • Proprietary plug ↔ USB-A
  • Function: Transfers saves, photos, demos between DS Lite and PC (via discontinued Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection PC software or homebrew: GodMode9i, Checkpoint on CFW)
  • Charging: Does NOT charge the battery. Requires AC Adapter (WAP-002) for charging

Third-Party Cables

Generic "DS Lite USB Charge/Sync" cables on Amazon/eBay vary wildly. Many only charge (USB power, no data lines) or use incorrect pinouts causing data errors. Official cable strongly recommended for data transfer.

Modern Homebrew Alternative (No Proprietary Cable)

  1. Install TWiLight Menu++ / Unlaunch on DS Lite
  2. Use GodMode9i to dump saves to SD card (via Slot-1 flashcart)
  3. Or use dslink (homebrew) for Wi-Fi FTP transfer to PC

Homebrew eliminates the need for the rare official cable entirely.
