What Does a Nintendo DSi SD Card Look Like? A Visual Guide

A DSi-compatible SD card is a standard-size SD card measuring 32mm × 24mm × 2.1mm—roughly the size of a postage stamp. It features a distinctive tapered corner and a write-protect slider on the side.

Visual Details

  • Color: Typically black, gray, or blue, though some brands offer red, white, or metallic finishes.
  • Label: The front displays the brand, capacity (e.g., "8GB"), speed class (e.g., "Class 10," "U1," "V10"), and often an "SDHC" logo.
  • Contacts: Gold or copper pins line the bottom edge for data transfer.

DSi-Specific Limits

  • Max Capacity: 32GB (SDHC). Original 2GB SD cards also work.
  • No microSD: The DSi slot only accepts full-size SD cards. Using a microSD with an adapter can jam the slot or cause unreliable reads.
  • Format: Must be FAT32. The DSi handles formatting automatically when you insert a new card.

Where to Find One

Any electronics retailer—Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, etc.—carries them. Search for "SDHC card 8GB Class 10" for a solid balance of price and performance.
