Trading DS for DSi: Stylus Doesn't Change Value

Having a stylus does not enable a straight trade for a DSi. The DSi (2009) is a newer, upgraded model; the original DS (2004) / DS Lite (2006) are older and less valuable.

Value Gap

  • DS Lite (complete): ~$30–$50 used.
  • DSi (complete): ~$60–$100 used.
  • DSi XL: ~$80–$130.

Stylus is a $1 accessory included with every unit—it adds no negotiating leverage.

Real Options

  1. Sell DS + Cash → Buy DSi: Cleanest. Sell on eBay/FB Marketplace ($40), add $40, buy DSi ($80).
  2. Trade at Game Store: GameStop etc. give low trade credit for DS ($10–$15); apply to DSi purchase.
  3. Find a Collector: Someone wanting a DS Lite for GBA slot may trade straight for a DSi they don't need—rare.

DSi adds cameras, SD slot, DSiWare, better screens, no GBA slot. Decide if those features worth the cost.
