How to Find Your Nintendo DS Game ID

The Game ID (often a 4-character alphanumeric code like ASME or NTR-ASMP-USA) identifies a specific game version and region. Here's how to locate it:

1. Physical Cartridge (Most Reliable)

  • Label Sticker: Look at the front label. The ID is usually printed near the bottom or along the side (e.g., NTR-ASMP-USA).
  • Back of Cartridge (PCB): In some cases, a code is printed on the circuit board visible through the slot, but the label is standard.

2. Via the Nintendo DS System Menu

  1. Insert the game card.
  2. Power on the DS.
  3. Do not start the game. Go to the main system menu.
  4. Tap the Settings (wrench) icon.
  5. Navigate to System Information (may be on page 3 or 4).
  6. The Game Code / Game ID for the inserted cartridge should be displayed there.

3. Online Databases

  • GameTDB / No-Intro DATs: Search the game title; these databases list every known Game ID by region.
  • GameFAQs: The "Release Data" section often lists the Game ID.
  • Nintendo's Legacy Site (archived): Occasionally listed in old product pages.

4. Homebrew Tools (Advanced)

  • DS Homebrew Menu / GodMode9i (on 3DS): Can read the cartridge header directly to display the exact Game ID.
  • Hex Editor (on ROM dump): Open a .nds dump; the Game ID is at offset 0x00C (4 bytes) in the header.

Important Notes

  • Region Matters: ASME (US), ASMP (Europe), ASMJ (Japan) are different IDs for the same game.
  • Revisions: Updated prints (v1.1, v1.2) may have slightly different IDs or a suffix.
  • Not All Games: Very obscure or prototype carts may not be in databases.

If you're struggling, search "[Game Name] Game ID" or "[Game Name] NTR code".
