"Dogs" vs. "Nintendogs" on DS: Different Games

"Dogs" and "Nintendogs" are different games. Here's the distinction:

Nintendogs (Nintendo, 2005)

  • First-party Nintendo franchise.
  • Versions: Labrador & Friends, Chihuahua & Friends, Dachshund & Friends (DS); + Cats (3DS).
  • Core loop: Adopt → name (voice) → train (touch/mic) → walk → contest (disc/obedience/agility) → earn money → buy items/house upgrades.
  • Landmark touch-screen + microphone gameplay. 24M+ copies sold.

"Dogs" (Ubisoft, 2009)

  • Published by Ubisoft, developed by Frontier Developments.
  • Full title: Dogs (EU) / Puppy Luv: Spa & Resort (US) — different regional titles for same game.
  • Gameplay: Run a dog spa/resort. Groom, bathe, style, accessorize clients' dogs. Management sim, not pet ownership.
  • No voice training, no walking, no contests. Different genre entirely.

Other "Dogs" Titles on DS

  • Dogz (Ubisoft, 2006) — Petz series. 2D sprite-based pet care. Simpler than Nintendogs.
  • My Dog Coach (Ubisoft, 2008) — Training guide app with mini-games.
  • Puppy Palace (Majesco, 2008) — Breeding/management sim.
