Two mainline Zelda games were released for Nintendo DS:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (2007)
   • Direct sequel to The Wind Waker.
   • Touch-screen controls (move, attack, menus, map drawing).
   • Ocean-based overworld with boat travel.
   • Temple of the Ocean King – timed repeat dungeon.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (2009)
   • Sequel to Phantom Hourglass (100 years later).
   • Train-based travel across overworld.
   • Phantom (possessed armor) companion controllable via touch.
   • More traditional dungeon structure; no repeat timed dungeon.

Other DS Zelda Appearances

• The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition (2011, DSiWare) – Free limited-time multiplayer remake of GBA Four Swords. No longer officially downloadable.
• Zelda cameo in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) – not DS.

Backward Compatibility

• Both DS cartridges play on 3DS/2DS (with black borders).
• Available on Wii U Virtual Console (digital, $9.99 each) – includes restore points, Miiverse (defunct), off-TV play.
• Not on Switch. No official modern port/remaster.

Which to Play First?

Play Phantom Hourglass → Spirit Tracks. Story carries over; mechanics evolve. Both are excellent handheld Zeldas.
