Nintendo DSi Web Browser: Released 2009, Limited Function

The DSi Browser launched April 2009 (Japan) / June 2009 (US/EU) as a free DSiWare download.

What It Is

  • Not a full browser: Opera‑based, stripped for 16 MB RAM / 256 MB NAND.
  • No Flash, no HTML5, no video, no complex JS.
  • Renders basic HTML/CSS only—text, images, simple tables.
  • Bookmarks, history, search (Google/Yahoo).

What It Accessed

  • Nintendo DSi Shop (primary purpose).
  • Nintendo Channel, Wii Shop Channel (redirect).
  • Mobile versions of Wikipedia, news, weather.
  • DSi‑specific community pages (Flipnote Hatena, etc.).

Current Status

  • DSi Shop closed March 2017—Browser can't download new content.
  • Most sites fail—TLS 1.2+, modern CSS/JS unsupported.
  • Only works on HTTP sites with simple markup—Effectively dead.

Alternatives

  • 3DS Browser: Slightly better (NetFront), still obsolete.
  • Homebrew (DSi/3DS): TWiLight Menu++ → DBrowser (homebrew browser, better rendering).
  • Phone: Actual internet in pocket.

DSi Browser was a curiosity in 2009. Today it's a museum piece.
